Monica Phillips, MD
Dr. Phillips has directed our cytopathology department since 2015 with oversight of the cytotechnologist GYN and Non-GYN inpatient and outpatient screening program. Our cytopathology program emphasizes diagnostic accuracy and specificity by utilizing modern specimen preparation techniques, and the most up to date, national professional society terminology to guide evidence-based patient management.
Dr. Phillips has guided our women’s health cervical GYN screening program, encouraging greater ease in clinician test requests which follow the American Society for Colpscopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) guidelines. She assists with coverage of the breast and gynecologic multidisciplinary breast tumor boards, and the surgical residency program’s multidisciplinary tumor board.
Dr. Phillips has a deep commitment to quality and empathy in patient care. As a doctor’s doctor, she believes in being consistently available to her clinical colleagues for consultation regarding their patient’s specimens including techniques in procurement, diagnosis, ancillary testing, and management.
Since arriving in Santa Barbara in 2014, Dr. Phillips has balanced time between patient care and acting while broadly exploring the human condition. She performs stand up comedy, improv, and occasionally makes time for projects in film and television as a member of the Screen Actors Guild.
