Complete Semen Analysis
(Does not include Post Vas Specimens)
Effective January 4, 2008 complete semen analysis will be performed at Pacific
Diagnostic Laboratory located at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Pueblo and
Bath Streets.
- Patients must call the SBCH Laboratory at (805) 569-7584 to schedule an
appointment for any semen testing.
- Patients will be directed to stop by the laboratory to pick up a specimen
collection container and be given specimen collection requirements.
- Specimen collections can be done at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital
in the private specimen collection room in the laboratory or specimens
can be collected at home.
Specimen collection requirements for Semen Analysis
and Post Vas Semen Analysis will remain the same!
- There is to be a three-day abstinence from ANY type of ejaculation
before the collection of the semen sample.
- Do not use a condom, it will affect the test results.
- Warm the container to body temperature before collection of the
specimen.
- The specimen is collected by masturbation into the container
supplied by the laboratory.
- Containers used to collect semen specimens must have the patient
name, date and time the semen specimen was collected.
- It is imperative to return the specimen to the laboratory within
30 minutes of the collection.
- Do not subject the specimen to extreme temperatures or direct
sunlight during transportation.
- Try to keep the specimen at body temperature by placing in a pocket
or holding in hands.
- Remember to bring the written physician order for the test to the
lab with the specimen.
